Timm Kurtz is a veteran "old school" artist with over 30 years industry experience.
He began his career painting signs and airbrushing vans and t-shirts in the late 1970's in the beautiful Rocky Mountains, from Denver to Boulder Colorado. That was his home for more than 27 years.
Timm spent most of the 1980's in fabulous Las Vegas Nevada where he worked on the spectacular train murals featured at the Silver City Casino, and other paintings and murals at various area Casinos, including the Silver Slipper, the Dunes Hotel, and the Edgewater Casino.
Though self taught, Timm decided to relocate to Florida in 1989 to pursue studies in art history, marketing, and studio art, and do a lot of fishing! He received his BFA from the highly regarded arts program at the University of South Florida. Timm owned and operated Executive Illustration and Design Studios based out of Clearwater, Florida for more than 8 years, creating unique designs for ad agencies, corporations, theatrical performances, and small businesses. Timm has integrated digital art into his design projects to ease commercial requirements, but has always found it necessary to keep a "hands on" approach to his fine art and illustrations. In fact, Timm is one of those rare artists who can sketch and airbrush accurately from life, and often paints "Alla Prima" and "En Plein Air." He credits this to many years in the airbrush booth where designing on a whim with extreme accuracy was a huge advantage!
For years, Timm has had a successful track record of original art sales in galleries from Florida to Las Vegas. He has sold many limited edition prints and been licensed nationally. You've probably seen his art on everything from greeting cards to textile throws. He pioneered the "Artist and Angler" Series with Outdoor Fishing sensation Bill Dance, and has worked with Trout Unlimited and Bass Pro Shops on various projects. Celebrities like Rodney Crowell have received Timm's art, as well as Willie Nelson, Kris Kristofferson, and others.
His commercial success has been ongoing and has not been limited to the field of art. Timm has written copy for several projects, created major ad campaigns, poster designs, conceptual renditions, business plans, concert and band promotional material, successful civic events, owned 3 restaurants, and played music professionally. Timm even did a stint in the explosives Research and Development field, where along with his family, helped to develop and patent a unique alternative for black powder shooters called "Golden Powder." In fact, every black powder alternative currently on the market owes their existence to the efforts of Skip Kurtz - Timm's father, Timm's brother Joe, and the years of trial and effort research the Kurtz family performed. Timm's been seen on the pages of Guns Magazine, Guns and Ammo, and Shooters Times regarding his firearms and fast shooting abilities. He's and avid shooter, firearms collector, fisherman and outdoors enthusiast.
Timm is a longtime student of the MARTIAL ARTS. For years he studied Tae Kwon Do and Shotokan Karate in the 1980's with 8th Dan Grand Master BOB CHANEY in Las Vegas, Nevada. When Timm moved to Hendersonville, North Carolina, he was fortunate to find by accident a modest, unremarkable dojo. One day Timm found himself at the doorstep of the dojo talking with a small, bald headed, crusty, retired Marine Mustang Major, who is without a doubt, the toughest, kindest, most honorable man he's ever had the pleasure of being associated with. Timm, and son Brian, are proud to be currently instructed by KYOSHI DOUG PERRY, the highest ranking non-Okinawan of the Shorin-Ryu Okinawan Karate system in the world.
